Just over 20km south of Barcelona is one of the jewels of the Barcelona coast: The Costa del Garraf, which begins in Castelldefels and ends in the Tarragona town of Cunit. Les Botigues beach takes over, located right at the beginning of the line of cliffs of the massif. It is a territory of coves at the foot of the rocks. Villanueva y Geltrú and Cubellas also have excellent urban beaches equipped with all services. The Garraf region boasts two towns of great tourist interest: Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú. Sitges is a cultural and cosmopolitan tourism destination, which offers its best-known profile from the urban beaches, such as those of Aiguadolç, San Sebastián, La Fragata, Estanyol or Terramar. Sitges has also emerged as an LGBT tourism destination throughout Europe, with a multitude of bars, clubs, restaurants and discotheques frequented by gays. Every autumn the Sitges Film Festival is held, one of the main events of Spanish cinema. Sea and culture are also the main attractions of Vilanova i la Geltrú. It has one of the main Catalan fishing ports, a lighthouse that houses the Museum of the Sea and a promenade with excellent architecture. The area has a varied range of nautical activities (sailing courses, surfing, kayaking, etc.). Thanks to the Olympic Canal and the Castelldefels yacht club or the Villanueva y Geltrú nautical station. The marinas of Garraf, Aiguadolç and Puerto Retama in Sitges complete the recreational offer on the coast.

Wines and cavas: star products of the Costa del Garraf

The famous wines and cavas with designation of origin made in the Penedès are the star product of the coast. Its importance extends beyond gastronomy, since the routes to discover the cellars, the vineyards and in general everything related to wine culture have given rise to the so-called wine tourism. The influence of the sun and the Mediterranean Sea make Penedès a privileged territory for the cultivation of vineyards.
