Costa Tropical

Beautiful gray sand beaches and crystal clear waters, steep cliffs, impressive mountains and pretty picturesque towns await you on the Costa Tropical.

Privileged geographical location

The 73 kilometers of coastline of the province of Granada are known as Costa Tropical. This coast has a privileged Mediterranean location. Right between the Costa del Sol and the Costa de Almería, it occupies a strip that offers the best conditions and attractions to enjoy an excellent stay or a super summer vacation. The proximity to North Africa and the Sierra Nevada, with the highest heights on the peninsula, protect this coastline from the cold northern winds. For this reason, it has a subtropical microclimate, with 320 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of around 20°C. Its name is due, precisely, to the exceptional climate that it maintains during all seasons of the year, which allowed it, two centuries ago, to become the only place in Europe where tropical and exotic fruits such as mango, custard apple and avocado are grown.

The best areas of the Costa Tropical

The Costa Tropical can be reached in just 45 minutes from Granada capital and its airport, or in just 1 hour from Malaga international airport. Of the municipalities that make up the Granada coast, five are the most important tourist centers: Almuñécar, Salobreña, Motril, Castell de Ferro and La Rábita.

In the westernmost area of the Costa Tropical, in Andalusia, is Almuñécar, the beautiful fishing village La Herradura; the well-known area of Punta de la Mona and the exclusive Marina del Este. Punta de la Mona is known for being one of the most exclusive and expensive places to live on this coast. Many of the properties have been built along the cliffs of Punta and most have incredible views of the bay of La Herradura or Almuñécar. During the summer months, rentals are very popular, as the area is optimal for those who need a little more space, traveling with a group of friends, or who are just looking to experience luxury and comfort at its finest during their vacation.

Almuñécar, still somewhat isolated from the more commercialized areas of the Mediterranean coast, is a magnet for those seeking an escape from the stress of city life and a desire to return to the wonder of nature. Motril, on the other hand, is the largest population in the province after Granada. Its monuments include the Iglesia Mayor de la Encarnación and the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, built on the former pleasure palace of Queen Aixa, mother of the last monarch of the Nasrid dynasty. The proximity to the Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada mountains; The gentle sea breezes and its numerous beaches have increased the curiosity of travelers about Motril. As a result, tourism has grown substantially. The small white, cubic houses of Salobreña swirl facing the sea around a hill crowned by a monumental Moorish castle. From the top you can see incredible panoramic views over the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean.

The small coastal town of La Herradura has a lot of attraction for those passionate about art, well-being and mystical sciences. Maybe it's because its natural beauty, and the feeling of being surrounded by history and nature, are inspiring.

What to do on the Costa Tropical? Nature and leisure

In addition to culture and culture, the Costa Tropical offers countless leisure activities, such as golf, paragliding, hiking in inland towns, scuba diving in the rich depths of Cerro Gordo and water sports, which have their center in the Marina del Este marina (Almuñécar) and in the Motril Nautical Club. The beaches of the Costa Tropical have been designated as some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Spain, and they have this well-deserved distinction. High rugged mountains falling into the deep turquoise waters of the Mediterranean create stunning coves, bays and rocky headlands of unsurpassed beauty.

Each of the towns along this coast has been gifted with numerous beautiful beaches. A beautiful natural setting on the Costa Tropical is the quiet Marina del Este, in Punta de la Mona. It is a place of special beauty, with many seaside restaurants offering views of the brightly colored sailboats and the town of Almuñécar in the distance. If you are passionate about drinks and their creation process, a place that you cannot miss is, without a doubt, the Ron Montero Winery in Motril. Founded in 1963 by a family with strong ties to the Salobreña sugar industry, it has gained international recognition for the quality of its rum. Here, in addition to tasting the different types of rum, you can learn about the entire manufacturing process.

Do you enjoy a day of golf with friends on a beautiful course? Well, how about one with views of the Mediterranean Sea? Then, the Los Moriscos Golf Club may be the ideal place for you. An 18-hole course, with spectacular views, and perfect for golfers of all levels. It may seem like the purest fiction, but one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in the country is just over an hour's drive from the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Tropical.

Yes, the Sierra Nevada is the highest in continental Spain. It has more than 106 kilometers of trails and 125 ski slopes. A fantastic adrenaline-charged activity you can do on the Costa Tropical is skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Skiing the slopes during the day and relaxing on a Mediterranean beach in the afternoon, enjoying a beer and some tapas, where else in the world can you do it? A plan that the little ones will love will be to visit the Almuñécar Water Park. Located just at the end of Playa Velilla, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Aqua Tropic Water Park is filled with slides, wave pools, jacuzzis, waterfalls, arcades, playgrounds, restaurants, bars and more. An excellent way to spend the day for adults and children.

It is proven that seeing the sea horizon produces an unparalleled feeling of well-being. If you decide to buy a property in Spain, specifically to live on the Costa Tropical, you will be able to experience these sensations. You can invest in a property on the seafront, which generally has outdoor spaces such as gardens, terraces, patios or solariums that, whether private or communal, will allow you to spend quality time with family and friends, while maintaining more healthy.
